Sometimes it all falls into place . . .

With just 77 days before a deadly asteroid collides with earth, Detective Hank Palace is out of a job once the U.S. Justice department takes over the Concord NH police department.  Yet Hank continues to try to solve another of the many disappearances in a vividly imagined pre-apocalyptic New England . . .

So we better get to work!

While we mainly chat about our problems and struggles and issues and unsuccessful hunts for those damned muses, I'm happy this time to give a shout out to Ben Winters, a local Indianapolis author, who will be launching his new novel, Countdown City: The Last Policeman II,  on Tuesday July 16, at 6pm at Big Hat Books in Broad Ripple.  CCTLPII is the sequel to The Last Policeman: A Novel, Ben's intriguing hybrid of science fiction and mystery, that won the 2013 Edgar Award for the best paperback original.  Now THAT'S something to get excited about.

And so is Ben's writing!  As a master of many fiction hats, Ben's done mashups, including Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, as well as the award winning middle-grade novel The Secret Life of Ms. Finkleman.  And most recently, not content with merely a single arrow from his quiver, he's tossed scifi and mystery into his fascinating blender to bring us The Last Policeman trilogy.

So, come on out to Big Hat at 6pm on Tuesday the 16th and celebrate the launch of Ben's latest novel while supporting the local writing community.  You'll know you're hooked when you start counting the days yourself.

And, WOW, think how much writing you can get done in the next 77 days with nothing else to do!

Just don't look up . . .
