This Is Just to Say

I'm taking a short break from academic topics (ha).

I've seen some fabulous imitations of the memorable William Carlos Williams poem, "This Is Just to Say."

Here's the original:

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

This brief, simple poem has sparked lots of close imitations (meaning keeping the syllable and sentence structure as similar as possible).

You can find tons of parodies of this poem online because it is so short and the structure is so simple.

Here are a few good ones.

I have finished
the beer
which was in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for Friday

Forgive me
this girl came over
so sweet
so hot
Brian McGackin

This is Just To Say...
Under no circumstances eat
The plums
That are in
The icebox

They are part of
An experiment on powerful
Pesticides
In fruit

Forgive me
The fridge at the lab is broken
And the pesticide is so toxic
And so virulent
The Byronic Man

This is just to say...
I have crashed
The car
That was
In your garage

And which
You probably
didn't know that
I'd borrowed

Forgive me
My blood sugar
Was so low
Because someone ate
my God damn plums.
The Byronic Man

Your turn. Got an imitation?
