What Comes Next: Part the Penultimate?

Update time for Clary of Cape May?

I'm hoping that the e-publishing process may be accomplished by the time I post again in two weeks.  Which means, this may actually be, Part the Penultimate.

Now's the time to freak out.

In the last weeks, the revisions have gone well, and I talked a friend into designing a cover for me.

I have a short list of things that need to happen:

1. Get an ISBN.  I realize this may not be necessary, but I'm going with it anyway.
2. Format.  I think Keith is going to do this for me.
3. Upload to Amazon.  Yeah, I will probably follow with some other companies, but for now, I'm taking it one step at a time.
4. Consider deleting the whole thing.
5. Start the process again?

This whole process has been incredibly difficult and strange.  I know that not every writer is as timid and insecure as I can be, but I have seen too many e-published and self-published books that I do not consider good quality.

I do not wish to fool myself into being one of those authors.

How can writers differentiate ourselves from the mass of books available today?  What can we do?

  1. Obtain a magic ring. That's what the better authors do!

I hear what you are saying, Heather. Remember that 'one' romance ebook publishing blog site I used to talk to you about, with that 'one' author with terrible writing but who regularly shared her sales? Well, after over a year, she is still having all the same issues that she had before: mediocre book sales, bad reviews, and a continuing guessing as to why she can't sell more of her romances.

I guess that's what happens to authors who don't write well or who push through their poorly proofread books to sell, sell, sell. They get stuck in place and become depressed or bitter. So, having read Clary, writing quality will not be an issue, and you know this to be the case. I think your biggest task will be in marketing your book while wading through the sea of mediocrity.

I offer my huge forehead for advertising 'Clary of Cape May', free of course, unless you want to add a Cape May scene alongside it. Don't worry, there's plenty of room for everything to fit!
